A downloadable game

You Find Yourself Alone is a macabre experiment masquerading as a table top role-playing game. In creating this game, I have attempted to build a machine not only for generating horror stories, but also for inducing the experience of horror in the player. Every element of the game was designed with that aim specifically in mind– from the unique take on "character creation", to the Horror Spiral dice mechanic and its gradual erosion of player agency, to the deliberately isolating nature of the Exquisite Corpse-like Multi GM/Single Player system.

Now, as with any experimental machine, this one is going to require some testing.

The version of the game presented here is an incomplete playtest version of a game still in development. Playtester feedback will be used to, frankly, first determine if this nasty little machine broadly functions at all, and then how best to fine tune it into the most viscerally unnerving table-top experience possible.

This playtest kit includes the game book, several example story prompts to get you started, a playtester questionnaire, as well as a few role-playing safety tools. We're trifling with dark forces here– best to take precautions.

In our early playtesting, the horror story experiences we created were frothing, atmospheric, nightmarish, surreal, and dreamlike. Will the stories that emerge from your play be similar, or something totally different and unexpected?

I would love to hear any feedback that you have on the game. Feel free to fill out the included questionnaire and send it along to the email address provided therein. You can also direct feed back to me here on itch.io or over on twitter.

Thank you for taking the time to test my game!
